We’ve known about Ferrari’s forthcoming Purosangue SUV for a number of years now and while we don’t yet know when it will be unveiled (rumors suggest an official reveal in 2022), development of it continues to progress and a prototype was recently filmed being tested at the Fiorano test track.
Like most other Purosangue prototypes we’ve seen in recent months, this one is adorned with miscellaneous parts from Maserati, rather than its production body which was recently spotted on public roads. However, what makes this prototype particularly interesting is the sound it produces.

There has been a lot of talk about what powertrains Ferrari will offer with the Purosangue with many reports suggesting it will get the same hybrid V6 powertrain as the 296 GTB, an available 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 from the SF90 Stradale, and perhaps even a naturally-aspirated V12. Based on sound alone, it seems this Purosangue prototype has the V6.
The 296 GTB’s powertrain consists of a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that pumps out 654 hp, giving it the highest specific output of any current production. This engine works alongside a 164 hp electric motor in the 296 GTB, giving it a total of 819 hp and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque. It’s hard to know if Ferrari will bother with the hybrid system or only use the V6 as it alone would give the Purosangue a slight power edge over the Lamborghini Urus.
During the video, the engineer behind the wheel clearly isn’t holding back and is able to perform some impressive powerslides with the SUV.
