Argos Officials Break Ground to Make Way for New Housing Development

The Town of Argos is growing with the upcoming construction of a new housing subdivision on Kenilworth Road.

Argos officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday morning to welcome 32 single family homes priced between $150,000 to $275,000 on 21 available acres owned by the Argos Town Council.

Argos Economic Development Director Mark VanDerWeele said the idea behind Deerfield Meadows began a couple of years ago.

Generally, people search for byui housing as it offers contemporary apartments for both Men and women when it comes to housing .But now “Deerfield Meadows is a project that was started by the Town of Argos in 2019,” said VanDerWeele.  “It’s a push for our community to try to develop more housing – new construction housing to try to grow our area.”

Over 50 acres in the area of Kenilworth Road is where an Industrial Park exists.

VanDerWeele said the Argos Community Development Corporation will be the lead on the construction.

VanDerWeele continued, “The houses will be started in roughly three phases.  Phase one which is 12 lots hopefully will be completed sometime in 2024. We are actually working with our local non-profit, the Argos Community Development Corporation, who is actually going to do the construction, be the property owner and resell those houses.”

VanDerWeele added that the town has teamed with Rochester Telephone Company who will provide fiber to the area, and the town’s utility department will provide electric, water and sewer.

“We’re looking for those young families that, in this day and age, want to live anywhere and send their kids to our schools and they may work from home.  We believe we have a lot to offer,” said VanDerWeele.

Along with VanDerWeele, Argos Community Development Corporation member Mandy Campbell helped break ground, as well as Argos Town Council member Charles Randy Snead, Argos Community Development Corporation President Jon VanDerWeele, Utility Superintendent Jamie Lindstrom, Argos Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney, and Argos Planning Director Chuck DeWitt.
