BANNER — A two-vehicle crash Thanksgiving night resulted in the death of a 77-year-old Fulton County man.

Harold W. Harris of rural Astoria was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, which happened about 6 p.m. Nov. 25, Fulton County Coroner Steve Hines said.

Harris was driving a 2002 GMC Sierra west on U.S. Route 24 about a mile southwest of Banner when the vehicle collided with a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe that was exiting a driveway.

The Tahoe driver, a 31-year-old man from West Peoria, was turning east on Route 24 but crossed into the westbound lane, according to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.

Following the collision, the Sierra veered off the south side of the highway and caught fire. Harris was trapped inside the burning vehicle, in which he was alone, according to the sheriff's office.

The Tahoe spun into the eastbound lane of Route 24 and came to rest facing westbound. Its driver and his three passengers appeared to be uninjured. The driver was ticketed for improper lane use and driving with a suspended license.
