Q&A | Discussing the iPhone 14 Pro, M2 MacBook Air, Apple Watch Series 8, and Apple’s Upcoming VR Headset

Every week I’ll take your most frequently asked Apple-related questions and answer as many as I can. This week I received a lot of questions, so let’s get to it – starting with the next MacBook Air!

When Is the M2 MacBook Air Coming?

One thing everyone asked me after I posted the M2 MacBook Air CAD files is when it will hit the market. That’s an interesting question. As far as I know, there is currently an event scheduled for the third week of March, although I doubt Apple will unveil this computer at that event.

From what I hear, we will only see the redesigned Mac mini and the new 27-inch iMac Pro. Instead, I expect the M2 MacBook Air to be unveiled sometime between June and October 2022. That means it could be unveiled at either WWDC or a September/October event.

Either way, don’t expect these devices to sell for less than $999.

What About Apple’s VR Headset?

I have also been asked often if I know anything about the Apple VR headset. I can tell you that I expect it by early 2023. I have seen some reports talking about 2022, but 2023 seems like a more accurate date considering Apple usually likes to delay the launch of new products like this.

These headsets will be expensive, not under $2,000, and people will need an iPhone or certain Mac models to use them. From what I understand, the supply will not be very large, as Apple does not plan to sell many units. Apple knows it’s an expensive device, and instead of targeting regular customers, Apple wants to target those who are most excited about cutting-edge products and tech gadgets.

Will the Apple Watch Series 8 Get a New Design?

Ever since I posted the Apple Watch Series 8 renders, based on CADs and internal information, many people have been asking me about a future redesign because the Apple Watch is starting to look a little boring. Year after year, Apple keeps the same design. The design has basically been the same since the Series 4, but there are no plans to change it in 2022.

I assume Apple has realized that this design has worked well so far, and if it continues to sell this well, Apple will not change it. That’s one reason for it, the second is that as long as they do not change the design, they will not have to change the production lines, which would make the Apple Watch more profitable than if they had to update equipment and more every year or two.

In summary, I expect Apple to change the design of the Watch when it stops selling as well as it does now.

Will the iPhone 14 Pro Feature USB-C?

I have also been asked if I can confirm whether or not the iPhone 14 Pro will have a USB-C port. I can not. I have seen prototypes with the USB-C port. I have also received internal documents confirming this, but it’s not even 2022 yet. A lot can change in a year, so do not take anything as final or confirmed in 2021.

Will the New MacBook Air Have a Notch?

The last question of the day is about the M2 MacBook Air notch.

Many of you have asked me if we will see the notch on this computer, and based on the CAD files I have received and provided to everyone, I don’t think so. And that makes sense too. If the bezels and notch are black, it’s pretty easy to hide them, but if they are white, it would not only look terrible but also would be impossible to hide.

Please remember, if you want me to answer your questions next week, send them to me via a Twitter comment, email, or DM. I’ll make sure to answer as thoroughly as possible. Thanks so much for reading!
