Microsoft today announced a new feature designed to improve the video quality of games streamed to devices via the company’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service.

Named Clarity Boost, this new feature will officially be added to the Microsoft Edge web browser on all supported platforms “by next year” which implies that we could see it roll out before the end of 2021.

“Today, we are excited to invite you to experience Clarity Boost, one of the latest cloud gaming optimizations available on Microsoft Edge Canary,” Xbox’s product manager, Milena Gonzalez, said in a blog post. “This feature uses a set of client-side scaling improvements to improve the visual quality of the video stream. Download Microsoft Edge Canary today to try out these features! Clarity Boost will be available to all Microsoft Edge users by next year.”

Xbox Cloud Gaming is a relatively new service that Microsoft began rolling out in earnest to several major regions this year. It allows users to play full Xbox consoles and PC games on their smartphone, tablet, computer, or Xbox console without having to download or install the full title due to all of the gameplay being processed on Microsoft’s servers. Depending on the device being used, Xbox Cloud Gaming can runs either via the official app or a web browser such as Microsoft Edge.
