On Monday, November 22, Saks unveiled its world-famous holiday window display and theatrical light show, featuring a special appearance by Michelle Obama, former first lady of the United States and founder of the Girls Opportunity Alliance, and a performance by the Young People’s Chorus of New York City.
Presented by Mastercard for the 12th year running, the Saks Fifth Avenue light show and holiday window installation takes place at the New York flagship store at 49th Street and 5th Avenue, and is on display through the end of December. This year, the light show features a dazzling display of over 700,000 programmed LED lights on the 10-story facade of the building. The legendary center six windows focus on the theme of reconnecting with friends and loved ones during the holiday season. Inspired by drawings and descriptions from children in the New York area, including members of the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, the windows feature fantastical renderings of carnivals, getaways, sweet treats and games.
“The holiday season is an important time for Saks to connect with our customers in a meaningful way through unique and memorable experiences,” said Marc Metrick, CEO of Saks. “This year, we are proud to support the Girls Opportunity Alliance and to champion the program’s mission to empower adolescent girls around the world through education.”
Saks’ support of the Girls Opportunity Alliance includes a $1 million donation to the Obama Foundation, a curated multi-vendor merchandise collection, holiday window displays at the Saks New York flagship, a Saks career shadowing opportunity for three young women from the GOA community, and a digital campaign with special content throughout the holiday season. From now through January 1, 2022, Saks will donate 100% of this collection’s net proceeds to the Girls Opportunity Alliance.
Since 1924, Saks has been known as a premier destination for luxury fashion. This year’s Holiday Gift Guide features a thoughtfully curated collection of items for everyone on your list. Customers can also visit the Saks Toy Shops at its stores in New York, Beverly Hills, Chicago, and Houston, and the Holiday Market at the flagship NYC location on Saturdays through December 18.
In addition to its Holiday Gift Guide, Saks is offering one-of-a-kind experiences, like a weekend trip to NYC for a viewing of the iconic Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony, the opportunity to create a custom look with designer Jason Wu, or the chance to create a custom piece of jewelry with Temple St. Clair, Robert Procop or Sharon Khazzam. Each experiential purchase supports the Saks Fifth Avenue Foundation and/or Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
