English Dub Review: The Detective is Already Dead “In Time, You Will Recall this Day”

Overview:

Alicia thinks she’s found the missing jewel. Except… it’s being sold in a store. Siesta, Kimi, and Alicia have dinner to discuss their next move. Siesta gets drunk and influences Kimi to do the same. They almost take things a step too far but Kimi holds his ground. Siesta wants to use a drug to erase Kimi’s mind but Alicia interrupts. The Fubuki he saw a while back was a fake, could this lead to a break in the case?

Our Take:

I really am at a loss on how to feel about this show. Like it’s fun to watch but feels so disjointed I don’t know how to take it at times. I suppose as long as it’s fun that’s what really matters right?

The plotline with Alicia seems interesting but it also feels not connected to the modern-day story at all. These last few episodes have just felt like an inconsequential slice of life fluff with some minor action thrown in. A chance for Kimi and Siesta to play house, they got a kid and everything. But maybe I’ll be wrong at the end of the arc.

Alicia is like the perfect role for Tia Ballard. Don’t get me wrong I like it when she goes with the strong mature voice a la Zero Two but her cutesy voice is peak, Tia. Xanthe Huynh does great with both seductive Siesta and super pissed Siesta. I really like Xanthe but I haven’t quite decided how I feel about Siesta as a character yet.

The Detective is Already Dead had an interesting premise but is starting to lose me quickly. Kimi is a pretty good main lead with just enough wit and charisma to not cross over into bland protagonist territory. Siesta is just all over the place with her characterization. Sometimes she’s really cool and mature and then the next moment she acts more childish than Kimi who is somehow in middle school. You might have forgotten that cause I know I sure did, anime is super wild with how they portray students and stuff though.
