Boston College football coach Jeff Hafley hit the recruiting trail in a more secure place on Tuesday after signing a five-year contract extension through the 2026 season.

The terms of the new contract were not disclosed, but Hafley was reportedly making $3 million per season under the old deal he signed on Dec. 14, 2019.

“Jeff has had a tremendous impact on our football program over just two seasons at the Heights,” said BC athletic director Pat Kraft. “He has built a strong culture, both on and off the field, recruited talented student athletes and helped build meaningful relationships for the entire Boston College community.”

Hafley’s name had been on the watch list for several recent openings at Power-5 programs, most notably Washington. Hafley was originally hired by Martin Jarmond to replace Steve Addazio. Jarmond, who has since decamped for UCLA, knew Hafley when he was co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach for Ryan Day at Ohio State in 2019.

The Eagles went 6-5 playing an exclusive ACC slate in 2020 but elected not to participate in a bowl game. BC went 6-6 and 2-6 in the ACC this season and will likely face an opponent from the AAC in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl on 29.
