Hawkeye fans elated as Iowa returns to the Big Ten championship game
It's been six years since the University of Iowa Hawkeyes have played in the Big Ten championship game.
The Hawkeyes earned their spot in the conference championship game following a comeback win over Nebraska and Minnesota pulling off an upset win over Wisconsin.
"Pretty happy about that. I don't like Minnesota, but I was proud of them for that," said Jackson Kozak, University of Iowa student.
The Hawkeyes will take on Michigan in Indianapolis for a chance to lift the Big Ten's ultimate prize.
Five days out from the game Iowa fans either have a ticket in hand, or they're actively trying to get one.
"It's going to be really cool. I can't wait to see all the Hawks there and cheer them on from the stands," said Madison Brady, University of Iowa student.
Brandon Alpers is a member of the University of Iowa marching band. He expects Indy to be loud and full of Hawkeyes.
"I think a lot of Hawkeye fans are waiting for this big game to come so I think we're going to have a lot of people there," Alpers said. "I think we're going to be loud."
Just as excitement is running on Iowa's campus, so is confidence.
"I'm expecting a win," Kozak said.
This will be the Hawkeyes' second appearance in the Big Ten Championship game since its inception in 2011.
The Hawkeyes are looking to win their first Big Ten Championship since 2004. They split the conference title with Michigan in 2004.
Iowa and Michigan will square off at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on Saturday.
