(KNSI) – A man who admitted slaying a St. Cloud resident at a gas station in Minneapolis earlier this year is headed to prison. Chaz Stubblefield pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing 46-year-old Ryan Decker on March 24th. Stubblefield was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Monday. The 33-year-old had a brief encounter with Decker at a Stop N Shop in the 1700-block of Lake Street.
According to the criminal complaint, Decker was in Minneapolis to help a woman move, and they stopped at the store shortly before midnight to get something to drink. Decker left after a security guard told him that he needed to wear a mask inside the store.
Decker bumped into Stubblefield as he left. Stubblefield punched Decker in the back, followed him outside, and accused him of using a racial slur. After Decker denied using an offensive slur, Stubblefield spit in his face and then shot him.
