Jose Peraza is headed across town, as the Yankees have signed the veteran infielder to a minor-league deal.

Peraza, 27, played 64 games for the Mets last season, slashing .204/.266/.380 with six home runs, 20 RBI, and 21 runs scored.

The utility man has a career slash line of.266/.306/.372 in parts of seven seasons with the Dodgers, Reds, Red Sox and Mets, and his best year was 2018 in Cincinnati, when he hit .288 with 14 homers, 58 RBI, and 23 steals.

Peraza played mostly second base as a Met last year, but has more games at shortstop in his career than any other spot, and he has also played third base, left field, and center field, with one emergency appearance in right field as well.

The Yankees are in the market for one of the marquee shortstops – a group that appears to be down to three in Javier Baez, Carlos Correa, and Trevor Story – and currently have some combination of DJ LeMahieu, Gio Urshela, and Gleyber Torres in their infield. The team is also possibly in the market for a first baseman, depending on whether or not they tender Luke Voit a deal this week.

The team did lose a lot of infield and utility depth this offseason – most notably by trading Tyler Wade to the Angels – so Peraza could fill that role as a possible utility man, or someone at Triple-A who can fill in anywhere the way Andrew Velazquez did this past season.
