PITTSBURGH — Thirty-nine-year-old Tamiselvan Thangdurai was arrested and charged with four counts of felony endangering the welfare of children after police responded to a domestic call to his home and found it in shambles.

Police say the floors of the apartment were covered in dirt and animal feces. They also saw a cat playing with a dead mouse.

One of the children who lives in the home told police that Thangdurai, her stepfather, raised his hand to hit her, but she grabbed his hand and stopped him, according to the criminal complaint.

Police also say that Office of Children, Youth and Families put the children back into the home and made them clean up. CYF also released the children back into their grandmother’s care, who was home at the time but in another room.
