Law & Order: SVU is welcoming back two more familiar faces, both of whom have ties to Det. Amanda Rollins.
Donal Logue will return as Lt. Declan Murphy, the role he played in Seasons 15 through 17, TVLine has learned exclusively. Murphy will have just wrapped up his most recent undercover assignment and will come to Capt. Benson and the Special Victims Unit for help on a high priority case involving a series of seemingly coordinated hate crimes around New York City.
In addition, Ari’el Stachel, who played Sgt. Hasim Khaldun, will reprise his role in the same episode.
Longtime viewers will remember that Murphy, who filled in for Benson at SVU during the William Lewis era, also is the father of Rollins’ older daughter, Jesse. And Khaldun, a transit cop who collaborated with Benson’s team in Seasons 21 and 22, acted as Rollins’ romantic partner during an undercover job and later seemed to take an extracurricular interest in the blonde detective.
Logue and Stachel’s episode is slated to air in January 2022. Ahead of that, though, SVU and spinoff Law & Order: Organized Crime will have a crossover event on Thursday, Dec. 9. The two-hour broadcast will deal with Richard Wheatley’s trial for the murder of Kathy Stabler — at which former ADA Rafael Barba agrees to defend Wheatley — and Eli Stabler’s sudden disappearance, which leads Elliot to ask for Olivia’s help in finding his son.
“It will be a very Law & Order Christmas,” OC showrunner Ilene Chaiken recently said regarding the OC half of the crossover, which is titled “The Christmas Episode.” “I’ll just say: I hope we don’t ruin Christmas for you for all time.”
What are your thoughts about the return of Logue and Stachel? Sound off in the comments!
In all fairness, Donal told us about this on What We Do in the Shadows. ;)
haha true!!!
So are they just going to bring back everyone Rollins was involved with this season?
I think at least one of those returns is tied to the L&O season 21 cast. But I’m also thinking Carisi will leave SVU and go to L&O, since they have been holding off on revealing some of the cast members for the show.
I’ve been wondering if he will return to the SVU as a detective. Comments are made often about him leaving the SVU, that he should return, etc.
and what would he do in law and order? Would he be an ADA or a cop? The roster of cops is already complete, and I recently read that the ADA would be that actor who played Hannibal, Hugh Dancy. So where would Carisi fit in?
You do realize that L&O almost always had more than one ADA, right? Robinette and Stone, McCoy and Sutherland, Cutter and Riberosa. So it’s entirely possible that he’s going to switch to L&O, and that would leave room for Barba to come back to SVU – God knows we need him.
hey, i like your way of thinking…
Very disappointed that in Brazil L&O OC will air in Star+, Disney streaming service while SVU still air in a cable channel so I can only watch SVU without OC.
Estou feliz!!! Tomara que eles venham e conquistem Rollins. Então finalmente Carisi será deixado em paz. Ele vai perceber que Rollins nunca foi pra ele. Carisi merece coisa melhor.
Meh.
I wonder if this plot has any relation to the once proposed Law And Order: Hate Crimes spinoff? Either as a back door pilot or simply using parts of the proposed pilot?
I was thinking the same thing.
This also begs the question: supposedly, due to the content, Hate Crimes will/would be a Peacock exclusive. Would NBCUniversal allow for crossovers between the broadcast and streaming shows knowing not everyone would necessarily pony-up to see the streaming portion?
Oh wow! I’ve always liked Declan and Donal was a big reason why I loved Gotham, so I like this!
Lol!! Bye, bye, Rollisi! I am happy!!!
I’ve been waiting impatiently for the reemergence of Donal Logue on SVU so this is very, very exciting news!
I’m happy!!! I hope they come and conquer Rollins. So finally Carisi will be left alone. He’ll realize that Rollins was never for him. Carisi deserves better.
I really wish they’d get Dean Winters back on as Cassidy. He was always one of my favorites.
I was hoping to see him on the 500th episode! Maybe he’ll be back soon. I think he needs to have a talk with Stabler.
I love Dean Winters and his complex relationship with Olivia. Before the return of Eliot I had always hoped Cassidy would return!
I’ve always been extremely fond of Brian Cassidy and Dean Winters was wonderful at portraying all the complicated facets of that character.
Me too. I think now that his past abuse was exposed and his dealing with it, he and Olivia can come together.
Love it. I think it will be great
Best news ever!! Wish Donal had stayed on SVU instead of going to Gotham.
I would love to see Donal Logue become a permanent addition to Law and Order SVU!! I think he’s an excellent actor and it would a great addition!!
“I’ll just say: I hope we don’t ruin Christmas for you for all time.” You already ruined my Christmas by putting my favorite character, Rafael Barba, defending the garbage Wheatley. Please don’t ruin my life by ending up killing him just to justify Olivia and Elliot getting together, ok?
hey, i like your way of thinking…
So excited to hear Donal is coming back to the show. He’s a native here where I live. I guess we will have to wait & see if Donal resumes his recurring role or not.
