The Eagles could be without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts on Sunday for their matchup agains the New York Jets.

Speaking on Monday, head coach Nick Sirianni would not commit to Hurts — who suffered an ankle injury in their loss to the Giants — starting. Sirianni said he would have more information on Wednesday and that he is “hopeful” Hurts is able to play.

Hurts didn’t miss any snaps agains the Giants, but he did come up slow a few times. Sirianni said Hurts’ ankle was “sore” on Monday.

Hurts turned in his worst game of the season against the Giants, throwing three interceptions, no touchdowns and finishing with a quarterback rating of 17.5

If Hurts can’t play the team would turn to back Gardner Minshew, who has yet to play in a game this season, but was recently promoted to the top backup after they traded away Joe Flacco.

Wednesday is the team’s first practice of the week for the Jets game. If Hurts isn’t on the field it will be a strong indication he likely won’t play and miss his first start of the season. The Eagles have a Bye Week after their game against the Jets, meaning if Hurts’ ankle injury is serious, he would have two weeks off to rest and recover if he misses this game.

Of course, considering he is fighting for the starting quarterback job next season, you have to think Hurts will do everything he can to play.
