City fines contractor for Hope Street work on Small Business Saturday

The city of Providence said Monday that it fined a contractor accused of disrupting traffic on Hope Street on what was supposed to be a busy shopping day this weekend.

Business owners along Hope Street complained that a construction project was preventing customers from getting to their stores on Small Business Saturday.
One business owner said her store had no customers for four hours.
After talking with City Council member Nirva LaFortune, the crew made changes to let shoppers through.
The city told NBC 10 News that S. Francisco Construction never pulled the required permit for the job.
The company was hit with a $500 fine.
