Men's Basketball Hosts University Of New Haven For Home Opener

The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team will play University of New Haven at James Moore Field House for their first home game of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021.

SCSU Spectator Policy 
  • In compliance with the University policy, all individuals - regardless of vaccination status - must wear a mask when attending indoor competitions at Pelz Gymnasium, James Moore Field House or the Bruce Hutchinson Natatorium. 
  • Spectators will be asked to practice social distancing whenever possible whether indoors or outdoors. There will not be restrictions on fan attendance, specifically related to capacity, but fans are asked to remain in small, communal groups and maintain social distance from other groups while in the stands whenever possible.  
  • SCSU continues to encourage fans and spectators to follow the guidance of public health officials, including social distancing and increased hand hygiene. Spectators will not be permitted near team benches or sidelines and may not interact with student-athletes before, during, or after the conclusion of the event on the playing fields/courts. Per University policy, the wearing of face masks is required in all campus buildings and at outside locations where social distancing is not possible.  
Last Time Out
Southern lost on the road, 76-57, against American International on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021 in their NE10 Conference opener. Aaron Russell (Bowie, Md.) led the Owls with a game-high 13 points, while Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass.) scored 12 points and Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) scored 11. Zack Penn (New Hartford, Conn.) shot 3-for-6 from the field and scored six points to go along with five rebounds and two blocked shots.

All-Time Against New Haven: 44-47
Last Time They Met: Southern swept New Haven last season, taking the first game 74-71 on Dec. 4, 2019 on the road and 73-67 at James Moore Field House on Feb. 19, 2020. During the second meeting between the two, Bennett scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, and had six rebounds and a team-leading seven assists. Taurus Adams II finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, and two steals.

Southern is 10-5 in their last 15 games against the Chargers since the 2013-14 season.

  • Ulyen Coleman (Brockton, Mass.) was named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll after he scored 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting and 3-of-6 from three-point range on the road against Jefferson. He also recorded a career-high five steals to go along with three rebounds

  • Bennett was named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll following his performances at the Bridgeport Tournament.

  • C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, Conn.) leads the NE10 in three-point shooting percentage at 55.6 percent. Russell is 10th at 46.2 percent. 
  • Isaiah Boissard (Walden, N.Y.) is ninth in free throw percentage at 82.4 percent.  
  • Penn is fourth in rebounds per game at 9.0.
  • Bennett is third in assists per game at 5.5.
  • Southern is fifth in three-point shooting percentage at 35.9 percent.
