Major League Baseball’s free agency is on fire. The current collective bargaining agreement is set to expire on December 1st and a lot of players want to have new homes by then so they don’t have to worry about it while there is a lockout. The Chicago Cubs have some former core players that are looking for new homes in all of this madness.

Players like Max Scherzer, Marcus Semien, Kevin Gausman, and Eduardo Escobar have already signed with new teams over the last few days. Now, there are still plenty of other good players out there including the likes of Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, and Javier Baez.

It sounds like the Seattle Mariners have interest in Kris Bryant which is very interesting but a lot of teams will be in on the former MVP. Rizzo is interesting because of his position and his age so it might take a while to see a deal for him. In the case of Javier Baez, one team sticks out as perfect.

He would be a great fit on the Boston Red Sox. They are a great team that just had an appearance in the American League Championship Series before they fell to the Houston Astros. This is a team that won the Wild Card game and rode that wave to the final four.

The former Chicago Cubs superstar would look great at Fenway Park.

Boston plays in the incredibly difficult AL East. Four of the five teams won 90 games and are in line to do so again. They are all looking like teams who will make moves this offseason to improve their already good teams as well. Javier Baez going to Boston would fit that bill.

They would probably, for now, use him at second base. They have Xander Bogaerts at shortstop which would form a sweet duo up the middle of the infield with Baez. He would fill out an infield that has some really good talent on it with Bogaerts and Rafael Devers.

The biggest key for Baez is his bat. We know he would provide good defense but his bat has the potential to be electric. He has put up MVP level numbers in his career at different points but he has also had his struggles.

His on-base percentage was low but the rest of his numbers were really high. He had a 4.5 WAR thanks to his stellar defense and his powerful bat. He slashed .265/.319/.494 for an OPS of .813 with 31 home runs, 87 RBIs, and 80 runs scored. All of those numbers should really help Boston maintain their reputation as a powerful offense.

There are going to be plenty of teams in the mix for Baez but the Red Sox makes the most sense. it would be very exciting to see him play at Fenway Park and take advantage of that Green Monster in left field. If that happens, they’d be getting a great player.
