Miss Virginia USA and former ABC13 reporter, Christina Thompson, competed in the 2021 Miss USA pageant Monday night!
"I'm really excited to represent Virginia on the national stage tonight. I've worked so hard for this for the last five years competing for a Miss USA state title," Christina said.
Although Christina's last day at ABC13 was June 30, she's not done with reporting. She's created a social media program called "Crown Time with Christina Thompson" and a mentorship program called "Purposeful Positions" which helps women break into the news industry.
"I've wanted to compete at Miss USA since I was 5 years old! My mom competed back in 1987, so it's super cool to share this with her," Christina said.
Christina represented Southwest Virginia at the Miss Virginia USA pageant back in July.
"People in Southwest Virginia were so excited about having their local news reporter compete. It was so cool. I received hundreds of messages from people who watch our news station congratulating me," she said in a July interview with ABC13.
This year marked the 70th annual Miss USA pageant. It was held at the Paradise Cove Theater of River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Christina made it to the top 16 of this year's pageant. Miss Kentucky was declared the winner and crowned Miss USA.
We are so proud of you, Christina!
