FAYETTE COUNTY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Over the holiday weekend, registration opened for the 2022 Bridge Day 5K Run. The news follows the cancellation of the 2021 Bridge Day Run and Bridge Day event, which were called off due to COVID-19.
Following this year’s Bridge Day cancellations, racers were given three options: to donate their registration fee, compete in the race virtually or defer their registration to 2022. Because of this, more than 200 racers are already registered for next year’s event, and only 500 total racers will be accepted.
This race, which serves as the largest fundraiser for Fayette County’s local non-profit that supports free elementary school run clubs, is the only opportunity to run across the New River Gorge Bridge during West Virginia’s largest one-day outdoor festival. According to Race Director Melanie Seiler, the bridge makes up the first ten percent of the 3.1-mile race.
The 5K race will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022. After the race, runners can join friends and family for Bridge Day which will be made complete with fall foliage, vendors, food trucks and more.
