I see another furore in the papers about leaks naming the couples in the dance-off, and the eleminated couple.
Is it time to end the 'Sunday' pretence and do it in a later, shorter show on Saturday?

It's happened before and will happen again. Leaks have always been an inherent risk of doing it that way. If the BBC had any desire to change it, they would have by now. Statistically it's rare, so they won't want to rip up their weekend schedules just to avoid it once or twice a year.
I really can’t see the BBC giving up those numbers, which they basically get off the back of the Saturday night production with no extra outlay, any time soon.
Yes think this is and will always be the issue. So many reasons to have the the results on a Saturday but while they are pulling in these figures on a Sunday (presumably with knock on figures to the next programme as well) BBC won’t want to change it. Despite everyone cringing when Tess/Claudia reference last night, or on Saturday’s show. 😖
But with 2 seperate shows on a Sat night i doubt if the figures would be much different.
I think it’s to do with pulling in the numbers on a separate night and bolstering the viewing figure on that night as well. Also to bring people in to continue watching. Like whatever followed Friends in the US used to get much higher viewing figures than it otherwise would.
It has never been announced as tonight slideshow of the live show tomorrow night it’s just always called the results soon.
I think the results show later in the evening Longley was absolutely fine when smaller numbers of couples took part, it isn’t now .
It was also fine when there was no dance off , just an elimination .
It’s impossible to “fill in “ the gap between one couple dancing and the next on the live show , because the judges critiques take some time and the chat to Claudia allow the time to change the set .
I don't think a 9pm slot on s Sat night is too late for most kids tbh.
Strictly is BBC's biggest entertainment show and needs to be in Prime time - 5:45 is too early. I think starting before 7PM is too early myself
I doubt if you’ll find any disagreement here, amongst the fans of the show. It’s pointless splitting it over two days when we all know it’s filmed in one…
Well it certainly is for my two youngest Grandchildren who love the show, the youngest being 5. If it started at 9 it wouldn't finish till 9.30 which would be way, way too late.
I think the second / results show not being live is a chance for everyone to breathe a little, and that's necessary. Even the two couples in the DO haven't got the added pressure of its being a live broadcast and they can film it in whatever sequence is most convenient and most expedient for everyone involved. I take my hat off to them all to be honest - the dancers and contestants have already put in anything from 40-60 hours of dance training throughout the week (some more than that!), and then go on to put out a live show and record 40 more minutes' worth of content for the following night. It must be exhausting. The presenters and judges have it easier but it's still a long night.
On balance, I'd keep it as it is. I am fine waiting 24 hours for a result, and actually, especially in December where surely most of our diaries fill up and we can't actually watch the shows live, it's a relief to know you can catch up on the Saturday show later on Saturday or on Sunday without being spoilt due to a leak in the press, worse still an authorised leak no longer considered a spoiler because the results show has already aired. That 24 hour gap gives me the opportunity to catch up, and if I am itching to know who's been voted off before the Sunday night, well.....that's what the SPOILER thread is for....
Unless you’re suggesting that they sometimes re-record the dance-off or other parts of the results show if they don’t quite go to plan, then I don’t see the difference between recording it “as live” and putting it out the next night, and actually putting it out live as it happens? Everyone still has to stay for the recording after the main show, and yes they may be tired, but delaying putting it to air until the next night doesn’t make them any less tired while they’re doing the recording.
Not suggesting that at all. It would always be fairly judged on one performance as if it's being broadcast live - there's an (albeit small) audience in the studio, and the contestants themselves might take umbrage if there's any interference in that. I highly doubt they'd even bother with the first live show if going down that suggested route were even remotely plausible.
However, it does give the production team / dancers / contestants some time "off camera" to relax a little more and take possibly even just small breaks between filming each segment of the results show. It's less pressured. This is particularly necessary at the start of the competition when the live shows are over 2 hours long and the contestants are all new to the process and will inevitably find it all even more tiring than they will later on.
It isn't that a second live show is completely unfeasible, especially later on in the competition, but for the reasons already stated, I think it's much better that they record the results show and broadcast it the following night.
It doesnt bother me one bit that they have it over two nights. From my point of view I like to know who has left before the results show.
Oh, me too. I'm not home from work till just after 6pm and like to be nice and settled.
Also, I don't look at spoilers, so I enjoy a bit if excitement and anticipation on Sunday night.
I don't have an issue with how it is currently divided, I certainly wouldn't want a marathon on a Saturday night.
That's not the point: the Beeb wants a short, family-friendly programme for a Sunday night that follows on nicely from Doctor Who. It's then followed by the bankably popular Top Gear, so why spend money on some expensive period drama -or whatever- when it's right there in their lap? It makes absolutely no financial sense not to, and leaves them with that money to spend on something big at another time of the year.
