Brad Marchand facing possible suspension after dangerous play on Sunday

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand has earned himself a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety on Monday after slew-footing Vancouver Canucks defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson during Sunday's Bruins/Canucks game.

The play occurred at the midway point of the first period when both Marchand and Ekman-Larsson were jockeying for position to win a puck race along the boards.

As the two veterans rushed toward the loose puck, Marchand swept the legs out from underneath Ekman-Larsson, sending him crashing into the side boards dangerously. You can see the replay below.

Update: DOPS HANDS DOWN MULTI-GAME SUSPENSION TO BRUINS FORWARD BRAD MARCHAND

Marchand is no stranger to playing on the edge, often crossing the line. A suspension here appears warranted, given Marchand's reputation and the dangerous nature of the slew-foot. OEL is lucky to have not broken his ankle or leg.

The hearing will take place later today, and given what we saw with with Sharks forward Kevin Labanc and his slew-foot on Blues forward Tyler Bozak, a suspension seems likely.
