The Financial District is about to get a major glow-up starting December 3.

Downtown SF is pulling out all the stops with Let’s Glow SF , their 2021 holiday light display that uses projection mapping on four buildings around the Financial District. The displays will be up from December 3-12 and are easily viewed via a self-guided walking tour.

Each building’s façade will be brilliantly illuminated with a dynamic light show designed specifically for that location. With 22 x 30,000 lumen projectors in total, this is the largest holiday projection mapping event in the United States!

See holiday-themed stories played out in stunning detail, transforming the buildings into dynamic canvases that seem to defy the laws of physics. Each show tells a unique holiday-themed story and will cycle through every 5 minutes, so you can walk through the displays and catch each one in their entirety. Effects include galloping ice horses, soaring snowy owls, arctic scenery, polar bears, ice castles, and more.

Many businesses in Downtown SF took quite a hit due to the pandemic, which Let’s Glow SF hopes to mitigate by drawing people into the neighborhood to support local businesses. “The inherent lesson is that we can no longer be just a financial district, downtown needs to pivot and pivot quickly to attract a more diverse range of people, businesses, and uses,” said Robbie Silver, Downtown SF executive director. “Downtown is everyone’s neighborhood and Let’s Glow SF is the first of many efforts to encourage San Franciscans to see downtown in a different, more inclusive light.”
