George Kambosos Jr. is grateful for the time boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has spent with him inside the ring.
Fans in attendance at the Madison Square Garden Theater were stunned after George Kambosos Jr. pulled off an upset victory over Teofimo Lopez Jr. on Saturday.
The two colossal lightweight fighters went at it for 12 rounds but it was Kambosos who was declared winner via split decision, copping the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles from Lopez.
Some may not know but Kambosos used to be one of the primary sparring partners of the world's only eight division titlist Manny Pacquiao.
Moments after beating Lopez, Kambosos was lauded by Pacquiao on social media, emphasizing that he hoped the “hundreds of rounds” of sparring they've had in the past did the youngster good during the fight.
“Congratulations to my friend, @georgekambosos, on an epic win! You helped me in so many of my past fights, I hope our hundreds of rounds of sparring helped you in some way tonight. I’m proud of you,” Pacquiao wrote on Twitter.

It didn't take long for Kambosos to respond and even credited the said “rounds” with Pacquiao for honing him into becoming a world champion.
“Thank you for everything @MannyPacquiao the rounds we shared together shaped me to become champion tonight! Thank you brother,” Kambosos replied.
Lopez's camp insists that Kambosos was not the rightful winner and fans in attendance were aware of it. Unfortunately, the pair's fight contract has no rematch clause, and Lopez's father Teofimo Sr. is claiming he's son is “going to go up to 140 lbs.”
