The Tampa Bay Buccaneers collected a much-needed win on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, but it wasn't easy. Tom Brady and Co. trailed 24-14 heading into halftime and looked rather lifeless offensively. So what exactly changed to make them come out and roll to a 38-31 victory? It appears a speech from running back Leonard Fournette fired the squad up and sparked the comeback.
Fournette, who had a massive game, took it upon himself to inject some life into the Buccaneers locker room. Via Jenna Laine of ESPN:
“I was like, ‘You have to have a will and a want,'” Fournette said. “You have to be willing to risk everything. Play by play, you have to want to win, you have to want to fight, each and every play.' I think they understood that message and played their lights out.”
Evidently, it worked. The Buccaneers scored 27 points in the last two quarters, but Fournette is to thank for the majority of their points. He was an absolute monster, rushing for three scores and also collecting another receiving touchdown.
Even his Buccaneers teammates echoed that his speech really got the team going:
“It was excellent. It got everyone fired up. He went out there and he backed it up too, and it just shows just how much we respect Lenny,” said Rob Gronkowski.
The Buccaneers are now 8-3 on the season and have won two straight.
