UA Little Rock to Present Performances by Percussion Ensemble, Trojan Steel Band, and UA Little Rock Choirs
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Music will present a week of fall finale performances by their musical choirs and ensembles beginning Dec. 1.
The performances begin with the Percussion Ensemble and Trojan Steel Band Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the UA Little Rock Fine Arts Building.
The UA Little Rock Percussion Ensemble will perform a diverse program of pieces including “Taxidermy” by Caroline Shaw, written for 12 clay flower pots, vibraphone, and marimba; “RE: Disaster” by Susan Powell, a bombastic, thrilling quintet for five drums; “Desert Sunrise” by Alex Stopa, written for keyboard percussion trio; and “2+1” by Ivan Trevino, a marimba duet played on a shared marimba.
The Trojan Steel Band will perform an exciting mix of tunes across multiple genres. These include Two Soca tunes (“Pyxis” and “Coconut Bay”), “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, and “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid by Alan Menkin.
Next, the UA Little Rock Choirs will perform their holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 W. 17th St., Little Rock. The concert, “Mysterium,” will include the UA Little Rock Concert Choir, the UA Little Rock Women’s Choir, the Chamber Singers, and Night Shift.
They will perform “Sing We Noel” by Noel Goemanne, “Carol of the Bells” by Peter Wilhousky, “Deck the Halls in 7/8” by James McKelvy, “O Magnum Mysterium” by Andrej Makor, “Noel” by Todd Smith, arr. Brad Holmes, “Pie Jesu” by Malcom Archer, “Winter Solstice” by Paul Carey, and “Tantum Ergo” by Gabriel Faure.
