Video of Nancy Mace's Differing Vaccine Remarks on Fox News and CNN Goes Viral

Nancy Mace, U.S. representative from South Carolina, has faced criticism online as a video surfaced showing how differently she speaks about vaccines while on Fox News compared to CNN.

In her Fox News interview on Sunday, Mace spoke about the benefits of natural immunity over vaccination. While on CNN on the same day she said she was a supporter of getting vaccinations and highlighted the dangers of COVID.

Speaking on Sunday Morning Futures with host Jason Chaffetz she suggested natural immunity gives better protection than vaccinations and should be considered when looking at policy.

She said: "One of the things the CDC has not done and no policy-maker at the federal level has done so far has taken into account what natural immunity does. In some studies that I have read, natural immunity gives you 27 times more protection against future COVID infection than a vaccination.

"So we need to take all of the science into account and not selectively choosing what science to follow when we are making policy decisions."

However, while speaking to CNN host Kaitlin Collins on the same day, she said she has encouraged people to get vaccinations and wear masks to prevent contracting COVID.

She said: "I have been a proponent of vaccinations and wearing masks when we need to. We had the Delta variant raging in South Carolina, I wrote an Op-Ed to my community and I work with our state department of health, I have run ads encouraging my district to go and get vaccinated.

"When we have these variants and spikes to take every precaution from washing our hands to wearing N95 or KN95 masks more than the medical masks. There is a significant, statistically significant number of people that are protected from COVID when they wear these masks."

A video of both videos together has gone viral with over 141,000 views so far on Twitter. The full Fox News interview can be viewed here.

Mace also said: "COVID-19 is very serious business. I'm a long-hauler. This is a disease and illness we should take seriously. I want to encourage the American people to talk to their doctors and talk about getting vaccinated. I was recently diagnosed, with asthma and I had COVID-19 a year and a half ago. I'm still feeling the repercussions a year and a half later."

Many viewers took to social media to attack Mace for her comments, including a Johns Hopkins surgeon, Joseph Sakran, who dubbed them "reckless" in a Twitter post.

He Tweeted a clip of Mace on Fox News with the caption: "As a critical care surgeon, let's just be clear about how wrong and reckless Nancy Mace is. This is one of the many reasons I'm supporting Annie Andrews, a trusted healthcare professional who will tell you the truth, and make us proud walking the halls of Congress."

Newsweek has contacted Mace for comment.
