CLEVELAND, Ohio — Four interceptions of Lamar Jackson weren’t enough for the Browns to get a much-needed win on the road. The Browns fell to 6-6 with a 16-10 loss in Baltimore on Sunday night.
The offense struggled to do much with Jackson’s four picks, gaining just 262 yards of total offense. Baker Mayfield completed 18 of 35 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown, but lost a fumble.
Baltimore’s defense held the Browns to just 40 yards rushing on 17 carries.
The two teams will meet again in two weeks. The Ravens are in Pittsburgh in Week 13 and the Browns will be on their bye week.
Here is how social media reacted throughout Sunday night’s game.
First quarter
“Show me something tonight baker . Need this one 6. Let’s get it #DawgPound . Welcome back Hunt - need you tonight!!” Blazers guard C.J. McCollum said.
“Browns throwbacks are gorgeous,” Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer tweeted.
“I did not take a train down to Baltimore to watch kicking issues!!!!!!!” Fox Sports college basketball announcer John Fanta tweeted after Chase McLaughlin missed a 46-yard field goal.
“Mayfield looked like Mayfield. That’s a notable improvement from last week,” Pete Smith of Browns Digest tweeted after Mayfield went 3-for-5 on the opening drive, with one of his incompletions being a drop by Donovan Peoples-Jones.
In the SNL player intros, Myles Garrett channeled his inner Ron Burgundy.
“Aw man that looks really bad for Conklin,” Brett Kollmann of The Film Room on YouTube tweeted.
“Conklin went dwn like that’s something real serious. Knee really buckled on that one #NewBrownsvsOldBrowns or #BrownsvsRavens,” Shannon Sharpe of Fox Sports tweeted.
“Hate that for Jack Conklin. I’ve come to really appreciate him after being arguably his harshest critic during the draft process. Really good player and tone-setter,” Jeff Risdon of RealGM tweeted.
“With, or without Conklin, the Browns need to run the stinking football,” NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano tweeted.
“Hey Cleveland: football only goes to 11,” Will Brinson of CBS Sports tweeted after the Browns were penalized on a fourth down for 12 men on the field.
“I see the penalties haven’t been cleaned up. #Browns #discipline” P.J. Ziegler of FOX 8 tweeted.
“Keep an eye on the DE’s. They have to keep contain. If they don’t Lamar is going to have a big night,” Emmett Golden of ESPN Cleveland tweeted.
“Greg Newsome II is so good man. How many corners let their eyes drift to the backfield after seeing Brown settle? Then the wheels to tighten the window for the downfield throw. Surtain’s been awesome; Newsome’s right behind him in terms of quality of play,” Benjamin Solak of The Ringer tweeted.
Second quarter
“They say Kareem Hunt runs angry. He’s running on behalf of the entire fan base at this point,” Mark Schwab of WOIO-TV tweeted.
“Ravens are selling out to stop the run. Downhill fast,” former NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz tweeted.
“Tackles are getting torched, Ravens are flying to everything underneath and no separation. Not going to get much done offensively when that happens,” Brett Sobleski of Bleacher Report tweeted.
“Garret is keeping the Browns alive in this game,” Dustin Fox of 92.3 The Fan tweeted.
Brinson after Denzel Ward picked off Lamar Jackson: “Very nice of Lamar to let everyone pretend the Jarvis Wildcat play never actually happened.”
“Hi, this game is absolutely nasty lol okay bye,” NFL Network’s Rachel Bonnetta tweeted.
“What the heck is going on?” former Ohio State safety Tyvis Powell tweeted after Mayfield’s big fumble.
Fox after Jackson’s third interception of the second quarter: “Lamar is gifting this game away yet somehow it feels like the #Browns are down by a couple TD’s.”
“Jarvis Landry might be the best QB in this game,” Bill Barnwell of ESPN tweeted.
Fanta: “PLEASE. PLEASE. END THIS HALF OF FOOTBALL!”
Third quarter
Sobleski: “Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was built to play in this specific game against this offense.”
Geoff Schwartz after Lamar Jackson’s wild touchdown pass to Mark Andrews: “Lamar threw that ball 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage. What an incredible play by him.”
“Not covering the tight end since ‘99 - the story of the #Browns,” Matt Fontana of ESPN Cleveland tweeted.
“having a QB that makes plays out of structure is, in fact, good,” The Checkdown’s Jordan Zirm tweeted.
Ziegler: “Why wasn’t Kareem Hunt on the field on third and five on a crucial series? #Browns”
“JOK is what Patrick Queen was supposed to be,” Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus tweeted.
“Other than not being able to sub correctly the Browns defense is having a good night,” Emmett Golden of ESPN Cleveland tweeted.
Smith: “Greg Newsome and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah are fantastic.”
Zirm after Baker Mayfield’s 20-yard touchdown pass to David Njoku: “there we go, Baker. more throws like that plz”
“#Browns playing for reasonable playoff chances and keeping their fans knotted up. Teetering on edge,” Hugh Hewitt of NBC and MSNBC tweeted.
Siciliano: “One angle it hit in the ground. One angle it didn’t.”
Fourth quarter
Fanta: “Lamar Jackson throws 4 picks…you gotta find a way! Find a way!”
“GO WIN THE FREAKING GAME Literally handing it to you,” Fontana tweeted.
“Great great play John Johnson. That’s what we call finish,” ESPN’s Louis Riddick tweeted.
“My goodness, this Browns-Ravens game. Do Baker and Lamar have some kind of evil side bet?” ESPN’s Dan Graziano tweeted.
Fox: “Keep feeding Hunt.”
“Jackson struggling vs blitz. They need to pass on first down, when risk of blitz is reduced,” Joe Banner tweeted.
Sobleski: “Anthony Walker, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Ronnie Harrison each have 10 or more tackles tonight. Excellent production from Cleveland’s linebackers.”
Fanta: “Baker Mayfield, this is your shot to make some dough.”
Monson: “Browns should punt it straight back on 1st down. Better chance of scoring on defense tbh”
“A seven minute touchdown drive would be a marvelous thing right now,” Schwab tweeted.
“It’s there for the taking. Go win this,” WKYC-TV’s Dave DeNatale tweeted.
Risdon: “JOK a real bright spot. Closing speed for days”
“We might not get this ball back smh,” former Browns offensive lineman Jason Pinkston tweeted.
“Our model likes go on 4th-and-8 and in here if it comes to it. Field goal buys Ravens little,” ESPN analytics writer Seth Walder tweeted.
“They are talking like the Ravens offense is unstoppable. They have 16 points, four picks, and two games ago they were awful against Miami,” CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco tweeted.
Breer: “Browns last six possessions: fumble, punt, punt, touchdowns, punt, punt. Cleveland’s churned out a total of 6 first down over that time. So let’s see if anything changes ...”
“He is soooo due for this,” Anthony Lima of 92.3 The Fan tweeted.
“Defense played great .. offense played poorly. Offense hurt more than defense helped. Now the Browns are in a spot where they have to just about win-out to make the playoffs. That feels unlikely,” Bally Sports Great Lakes’ Al Pawlowski tweeted.
“Baker is banged up and throwing short of the sticks on fourth down. He wants to be Big Ben,” Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports tweeted.
Zirm: “1 throw away. two passes short of the sticks. a drop by Landry. what a final drive”
