Ja Morant avoided a serious knee injury; however, the Memphis Grizzlies star will still miss some time.

During Friday's game against the Atlanta Hawks, Morant sustained a non-contact leg injury that forced him out for the rest of the contest. Due to the nature of the issue, several fans feared it could be some sort of tear. Fortunately, the Grizzlies later revealed that it was a left knee sprain.

While it is not a significant issue, though, head coach Taylor Jenkins acknowledged that Morant will still “miss a few weeks” because of the injury. For what it's worth, the 22-year-old is expected to make a full recovery when he returns.

There is no specific return date for Ja Morant, though the Grizzlies are expected to be cautious in his recovery in a bid to avoid reaggravating the problem. According to Healthline, depending on the severity of the sprain, it could take two to four weeks of recovery.

The Grizzlies will be happy with this development for sure, especially since it is likely Morant can return to the team some time in mid or late December.

Before his injury against the Hawks, Morant was averaging 25.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He was well on his way to becoming an All-Star for the first time in his career, all while leading the Grizzlies in the thick of the playoff race.

In Morant's absence, the Grizzlies will have to fill the void he left offensively. Fortunately, they have a plethora of young talent at their disposal in Dillon Brooks, Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr.
