A 19-year-old taken into custody hours after a shootout between a gunman and Sacramento police has been identified as Jacob Armada, police said on Monday. "Detectives worked throughout the night and were able to connect Armada to the original shooting incident," Sacramento police said on Facebook. Officers got several reports around 9 a.m. Sunday of a man with a gun near 63rd Street and Lemon Hill Avenue. When they arrived, the man shot at an officer, who also fired their gun, police said. No officers or anyone else was hurt in the gunfire. One round pierced the uniform pants of an officer.The Sacramento Police Department said Sunday after setting up a perimeter to search for the suspect in the gun battle that the man was found hiding in the area and was detained.Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies and SWAT officers had been at the scene, along with a helicopter circling the neighborhood where the shooting took place, as part of an eight-hour search. KCRA 3's Lysee Mitri was at the scene and tweeted that police in the neighborhood said, "Attention on the ground: The police department is looking for an armed felony suspect. Please remain inside your homes. We are searching this area with K9s."Hung Vo lives in the neighborhood and had to leave to go to work."To be honest, I'm really scared for me and for my family too because they are in this area," Vo said. "So, when I go to work I said, 'Close all the doors. Shut all the doors down. Don't let anyone go in, even though they knocked on the door. Don't open it.'" The suspect taken into custody received treatment for his injuries sustained during a K9 engagement, Sacramento police officers later said late Sunday night. There were "multiple unsuccessful attempts asking for that subject to surrender," police said. Armada was booked into the Sacramento County main jail for resisting officers, assaulting a police K9, as well as felony assault charges and for two counts of attempted murder on a police officer, police said on Monday. "We know that this incident had significant impacts to the community, the affected neighborhood, and traffic in the area. We want to thank the public for their assistance and cooperation while this incident unfolded," said Sacramento Police Department Sgt. Sabrina Briggs. "We are grateful that no officers were injured during this very dangerous call and for the hard work and professionalism of our officers. We would also like to thank the numerous regional agencies who responded to assist including the Sacramento Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, and the Elk Grove Police Department." The incident is being investigated by the Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Unit, Internal Affairs Division and the Professional Standards Unit. The Office of Public Safety Accountability and the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office are providing oversight of the investigation, the Sacramento Police Department said. The Sacramento Police Department asked for any witnesses with information regarding this incident to contact the dispatch center at 916-264-5471 or the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP (4357). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Anonymous tips can also be submitted using the free "P3 Tips" smartphone app.
