The San Jose Sharks have been without Evander Kane for the entire NHL season thus far, and it looks as if they'll continue on without the 30-year-old for the foreseeable future.

According to CHEK's Rick Dhaliwal, the Sharks are placing the suspended winger on waivers as they actively seek a trade partner for Kane.

Kane was suspended 21 games by the NHL in October after the league discovered an “established violation” of the NHL/NHLPA COVID-19 protocol. Kane had been accused of submitting a fake vaccination card to the Sharks in order to avoid having to get the vaccine.

Furthermore, Kane had been in hot water with the league after his ex-wife Deanna Kane had accused him of gambling on NHL games. He was cleared of any wrongdoing in regards to gambling on games following the NHL's investigation in September.

The Sharks were said to be willing to eat a significant portion of Kane's contract in any trade, and should the veteran clear waivers the organization plans to send him to their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.

Kane, 30, led the Sharks with 49 points in 2020-21, contributing team-highs with 22 goals and 27 assists. He's been with the organization since being acquired in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres in 2017.

Kane was a first-round draft pick (fourth overall) by the Atlanta Thrashers (now the Winnipeg Jets) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He's scored 264 goals and added 242 assists across his 12-year career, but his inability to stay out of trouble off the ice has proven a headache for the Sharks this season.
