MONTOURSVILLE – A Monroe County man is jailed without bail on multiple charges following a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 180 during which two state police vehicles were rammed and disabled.
Latrell Esias Warrick, 20, of East Stroudsburg, had to be physically removed from his vehicle following the chase that began west of Montoursville and ended near Turbotville, police said.
This is the account of the pursuit taken from the arrest affidavit:
Trooper Patrick Kineston was running radar at 9:11 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 180 when he clocked an eastbound Honda doing 94 in a 55-mile speed area.
He gave chase. The car slowed to 45 in a 65-mile speed zone but then accelerated to 100 miles an hour. The operator appeared to have a cell phone in his right hand and would lean over the console.
Several other state troopers along with local police joined in and an attempt to bring the Honda to a controlled stop failed. Trooper Thomas Spagnolulo’s vehicle was rammed and disabled during that attempt.
The pursuit continued into Northumberland County at speeds ranging from 50 to 90 miles an hour.
Troopers from Milton deployed a tire deflation device but the Honda turned to avoid it and in doing so struck Kineston’s vehicle, disabling it.
The Honda continued on, striking guide rails before coming to a stop in the median.
The driver refused multiple verbal commands to remove his hands from the steering wheel and was physically removed from the vehicle after a stun gun was deployed.
The driver, identified as Warrick, was in possession of marijuana that was in a clear plastic container and a vape pen, the affidavit states.
He was transported to UPMC Muncy for evaluation where he refused to permit a blood draw, the document states.
Warrick was arraigned before District Judge Jon E. Kemp, who ordered him detained without bail as danger to the community.
He is charged with recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, fleeing police and four Vehicle Code violations.
No information was available on whether either trooper was injured.
