Driver accused of dragging officer at traffic stop

BELMONT, N.H. (AP) — A driver is accused of dragging a police officer while trying to speed away from a traffic stop in Belmont, authorities said.

The officer was trying to arrest the 26-year-old man on Tuesday night. Police said the man drove away, dragging the officer, WMUR-TV reported.

The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated at a hospital and released. A state trooper also was hit by the vehicle and suffered minor injuries, police said.

The vehicle ended up crashing in Gilmanton, and the driver got out and fled, police said.

The driver was found and taken into custody. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer, and a phone number could not be found for him.
