I don't know if this is true or not or if David himself has confirmed that he has left his role as Roy Cropper in Coronation Street for good? or is The Mirror misleading again? haha.

Well, allo, allo, that article is clear as mud. Talking in riddles and imagining all sorts. :D

I find it pretty impressive/amusing how Corrie has managed to easily fool so many people into thinking Roy has gone for good.

I mean, they've barely had to try - they've had him randomly deciding to run away to South America one day out of guilt, rejecting Nina's desperate pleas in the process, and people believe that's how they'd write a character like Roy out of the show for good.

It confirms nothing. It even says in the article “appears to confirm” which is just another way of saying they are speculating. 🤷‍♀️

It’s always clickbait with the redtops so I take everything thing they say as a big dollop of dog sh*t

It really is odd. I didn’t believe it at first, and ITV have been less than forthcoming. You’d think they’d do more, it’s very confusing.

Those trying to discredit the Mirror, it is literally a quote from Inside Soap, who are usually fairly reliable and don’t tend to mislead. DS have done an almost identical article too.

We’ll just have to wait for ITV to comment, as unless David is playing with us it does appear Roy is gone.

If it is indeed true then I shall miss his character, David has been a great actor and portrayed Roy so well. Roy had morals and by lying to the police it went against everything he stood for, so short of going to jail by perverting the cause of justice , disappearing is the best thing he could have done imo. Maybe I’ve missed / forgotten something but what is Roy’s connection to South America? Good luck to David in the future if it is the last we’ve seen of him.

    Lol.

Yeah, no. I don’t care what anyone says (not even David himself), that’s not how Roy would be written out (if he ever does truly leave). It’s designed to make you think he’s gone for good, but I’d bet the farm we’ll be seeing him again relatively soon.

Wasn't that how Emily was written out? A trip to South America?

I think if David Neilson decided to call it quits, it'd be front page news and we'd know about it. But it would be more in line with Eileen Derbyshire, who wanted a quiet exit.

It seemed like Nina is going to start to have panic attacks. I assumed that when this started that this will end up bringing Roy back.

And yet when Emily left it was the opposite way - it was SO obvious she had been given a low key, but permanent, exit. And nobiody on here would see it!
Now we have a character who is clearly on a temporary break and people think he's gone for good lol.

I think in 12 or maybe 18 month Roy will return.

Yes I called it straightaway that Emily's exit was a lowkey permeant one. The way they had her friends bidding her an emotional farewell. It felt very final. The official statement that Eileen Derbyshire was taking a 6 month break didn't ring true.

Emily appeared so infrequently in her later years that we would only see her once or twice a month anyway. If she really was taking 6 months off they could have filmed 6 scenes of her sitting in the Rovers and slotted them in once a month and nobody would have been any the wiser that she had been away. Instead they went to the effort of writing her out and packing her off abroad.

Reading between the lines it was obvious Emily wasn't coming back.

He's still listed as a regular character.

David is Soap Royalty so I’m hopeful he’ll be back.

I don't believe for a second that he's left the show.
