Missing Florida teen believed to be in NC found safe, police say

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A 15-year-old South Florida girl who was reported missing has been found safe, police said Monday.

Jeimy Henrriquez left her home in North Miami Beach on Saturday morning with someone she met while playing an online video game called Fire Max, police said.

Authorities have not identified the person who picked up the teen, but she took her book bag and cellphone with her.

On Monday, North Miami Beach Police Chief Richard Rand told WPLG-TV that Henrriquez was found safe and is now in the custody of the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. She will be reunited with her family soon, officials said.

Around 10 p.m. Saturday, she called her mother, weeping that she was hungry and was far from home. She then hung up. Detectives were able to trace the call to North Carolina, police said.

“This is a stark reminder during this holiday season that we have to be mindful of what our children are doing on the internet,” Rand said.

Rand said the man who she left home with was more than 10 years older than her. Police have also not confirmed where they found Henrriquez.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the North Miami Beach Police Department.

No other details have been released at this point.
