Adam Schiff teases imminent Capitol riot committee ‘decision’ regarding defiant Mark Meadows

.

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot could refer former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows for criminal contempt of Congress in the coming days, according to one top member.

During a CNN interview on Sunday, Rep. Adam Schiff said the committee will “probably make a decision this week” on whether to seek punishment for Meadows, who has so far defied a subpoena for testimony and documents.

The California Democrat said other witnesses may also be targeted but cautioned that he would not get into specifics.

“I can’t go into communications that we’re having or haven’t had with particular witnesses, but we are moving with alacrity with anyone who obstructs the committee.” Schiff said.

Schiff also said the committee intends to hold public hearings soon.

After Meadows blew past the deadline to comply with the subpoena by Nov. 12, he insisted on Newsmax that the “narrative” of Jan. 6 doesn’t reconcile with the truth and reasoned that he does not need to cooperate until legal disputes regarding executive privilege “are appropriately resolved by courts.”

Steve Bannon, another former Trump White House official and ally, was indicted by a federal grand jury for defying a subpoena from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
