Greenville High School football preview 2023

GREENVILLE, Pa. (WKBN) – Brian Herrick left his post as Greenville’s head football coach last year after a career that spanned 16 years and saw the Trojans post 100 wins while advancing to three District 10 title games.

In December, Greenville hired one of their own in Michael Menold, a 1991 graduate and an assistant of fifteen years.

Menold states, “We’re excited about the upcoming season. We’re in a very competitive region with excellent teams and coaches. We have focused our attention on competing at everything we do this summer, and the kids are doing great.”

The Trojans return four starters up front along the offensive line with Tucker Musser, Logan Leskovac, Bennett Hayne and Joey Peterson.

Nick Solderich (726 passing yards, 5 TDs; 285 rushing yards) is back at quarterback along with the team’s leading rusher Malachi Hyde (620 rushing yards, 6 TDs) at his running back position.

Noah Philson (7 catches, 58 yards) at wide out and Jack Strausser (7 catches, 124 yards) at tight end are the top two receiving targets for Solderich back in 2023.

“We’re also counting on a number of underclassmen to make significant contributions on offense,” Menold indicated. “We want to be varied on offense and take advantage of all of our kids’ abilities.”

The returning starters on defense will be Musser and Leskovac up front with Hyde and Hayne behind them, along with Philson, Strausser and Solderich.

At linebacker, the coaching staff is very high on Teague Calvin, “We’re looking for him to be an every-down player this year,” added Menold.”

Greenville will cross state lines as they begin the new year against Hubbard on August 25.

“We have great senior leadership and I’m excited to see what we can do on the field this season,” says coach Menold. “The focus for the season [ahead] is for the kids to give their best effort every day in order to compete for forty-eight minutes every Friday.”
