Junior hockey: Steel come on late to beat Wilderness again in NAHL action

Chippewa Steel tally four goals in the third period to pull away to win in back-to-back games.

Forward Gunnar Thoreson scored the lone goal for Minnesota in the second period, pulling the Wilderness to within a goal at 2-1, but the Steel exploded for four unanswered goals in the third period.

The Steel rallied from a 4-2 deficit in Friday’s Game 1 after scoring five goals in the third period. For the two-game series, they outscored the Wilderness 9-1 in the third period.

Croix Kochendorfer had 39 saves for the Steel while Jacob Zacharewicz had 21 saves for Minnesota.

The Wilderness are off until next weekend, when they face the Fairbanks Ice Dogs for a weekend series in Marshall, Minnesota starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3.
