Women’s basketball

Brittney Cedano had a strong, all-around game but cold shooting doomed Dominican University in a 66-49 road loss to Humboldt State in Arcata on Saturday night.

Cedano scored eight points, pulled down 12 rebounds and had four steals — part of a defensive effort that saw the Penguins force 21 turnovers.

Riley Friauf again led the team in scoring with 18 points while grabbing eight rebounds. The Penguins were cold from outside the arc, however, making just one three-pointer while the Lumberjacks made 11 shots from downtown.

Men’s basketball

Dominican hung around for a half but was unable to keep pace after the break in a 61-43 home loss to Stanislaus State on Saturday.

Anthony Dennis paced the Penguins (1-3) with eight points. Dominican trailed 23-22 at the half and was outscored 38-21 the rest of the way. The Penguins were limited to 37.5% shooting for the game and made three of their 17 attempts from beyond the arc.
