Incident at Mall at Robinson sends shoppers running in panic
An incident at the food court at the Mall at Robinson on Saturday night caused panic among guests.
"People were shoving, screaming, crying," said Gloria Betters.
Gloria Betters said she was eating at the food court just before 7 p.m. with her husband and two teenage children when things became chaotic.
"All of a sudden there was screaming, there was loud banging noise," she said. "We didn't know what it was and people started panicking and running towards the entrance and yelling for everyone else to run."
Betters said her family took off running towards the door. She said other people thought that sound was gunfire.
"It was surreal," she said. "We assumed the worst. We assumed that somebody had a gun because there was a bang."
A spokesperson for the Mall at Robinson said there was an altercation between two sets of people in the food court and during that scuffle a metal sign fell over causing a loud noise, and panic that sent people running. They said there were no shots, no gunfire and fortunately no injures, and the incident was quickly brought under control.
Betters said the incident shook her up, but she's grateful to be home safe with her family
"It was like a movie," she said. "It was like the stuff you see in a movie or a tv show. It's the sad reality of our country right now because everybody has guns and you just assume it's a gun."
Robinson Township police are investigating the incident, and haven't released any details at this time.
