Man known to victim arrested in fatal stabbing of 40-year-old

A Brooklyn man has been arrested in connection with a horror-movie style fatal stabbing, which saw the victim’s blood smeared across the front door of a Bay Ridge apartment building.

Vito Bauza, 56, was charged Saturday with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the killing of Ernest Diaz, 40.

Diaz was discovered in front of 303 99th Street in Bay Ridge around 2:50 p.m. Friday, according to the NYPD. He had been stabbed multiple times. He was pronounced dead at Lutheran Hospital a short while later.

Diaz, whose last known address was in Queens but who police sources said was apparently living with Bauza, rode the elevator down from the fifth floor and stumbled out, said a custodian who saw him and spoke while cleaning the blood from the building’s lobby, which reeked of bleach.

“Whoever did this really wanted him dead,” he told The Post as he emptied a bucket of bloody water into the sewer. “He had stab wounds all over.”

One resident said the building was rife with problems, calling it “cursed.”

A liquor store manager across the street said he saw the aftermath of the murder.

“I looked outside and the guy was just sitting at the front door covered in blood, just red everywhere,” he told The Post. “One of our customers called the police and ran across to help him and bring him inside, but he didn’t make it when she tried to move him.”
