Doc Rivers explains why Sixers sent Paul Reed down to the G League

The Philadelphia 76ers made a move on Saturday morning that may have perplexed a few fans. They sent second-year big man Paul Reed down to the G League to play a game for their affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.

The Blue Coats faced Raptors 905 on Saturday afternoon while the Sixers had a game at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Therefore, Philadelphia actually recalled Reed for their game and they are having him pull double duty in this one.

Reed ended up playing well in a Blue Coats win as he scored 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. This comes after Reed did not play much during their 6-game road trip and the team is giving a long look to Charles Bassey.

“He just needs some playing time,” said coach Doc Rivers. “He struggles in execution a lot and so we want to really put him through it, let him play more minutes, and see if he can get through it.”

Bassey had a solid road trip so it makes sense that the Sixers sent Reed down to Delaware for a game. The only way that Bball Paul is going to properly develop is if he gets the needed court time so that was a good opportunity for him to do so.
