NORTH PORT, Fla. (CBS12) — The parents of Brian Laundrie, the man wanted for questioning in the killing of 22-year-old Gabby Petito, says they discovered their gun missing just after Laundrie himself vanished.
Steven Bertolino, the attorney for the Laundrie family, said the parents surrendered their guns to law enforcement on Sept. 17, the same day they reported Brian Laundrie missing. They realized one handgun was not in its case and told authorities.
Brian Laundrie and Petito, his fiancée, went on a cross-country trip in July before she disappeared.
Police found her remains in Wyoming. She had been strangled. Laundrie returned to his parents home in her van, alone, on Sept. 1.
Laundrie, 23, ended up taking his own life by shooting himself in the head in a Florida preserve, not far from his family's home.
