THAT'S ALL FROM LONDON!

Arsenal extended Newcastle's winless run in the Premier League as they beat them 2-0 on Eddie Howe's debut at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners had two massive opportunities to open the scoring in the first half, first with Martin Odegaard on 20 minutes when his free-kick forced an acrobatic save out of Martin Dubravka.

The north Londoners then missed the biggest chance of the match after 41 minutes when Bukayo Saka's cross from the left found Emile Smith Rowe, whose header was cleared by Dubravka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hit the post from three yards out.

The Magpies almost upset Arsenal in the half-hour mark when Jonjo Shelvey's thunderous effort was denied by Aaron Ramsdale's stunning lunge as well as the hosts' crossbar.

Mikel Arteta's men didn't get their goal in the first half but made quick work out of the Toon in the second.

It all started in the 56th minute when Saka got the ball down the left wing and switched with Nuno Tavares, who scouted his run and passed it back to the England international who then fired a shot from a tight angle that beat Dubravka.

Disaster struck for Arsenal soon after when the goascorer limped off with a hip injury.

But his substitute Gabriel Martinelli sealed the win on 66 minutes with a wonderful goal when he picked up Takehiro Tomiyasu's velvet flick and hit the back of the net with a marvellous volley.

That's all from us here at SunSport, have a lovely rest of the day!

ARTETA REACTS

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had no details regarding Bukayo Saka's injury, which led to a necessary change, but could find out tomorrow when the player undergoes some scans.

Arteta told BT Sport: “In the first half we played how we wanted but without being a real threat. The first half was too slow and we did not occupy certain spaces.

"In the second we changed a few things and started in a different way, our rhythm was much better.

"Saka’s goal was great, it’s what you need against a low block."

Arteta added: "He [Saka] was uncomfortable to continue. We will have to probably scan him tomorrow and see if there's any injury there"

HOWE REACTS

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe insists he saw some "positive signs" despite the loss to Arsenal and argues Callum Wilson should have been awarded a penalty.

Howe told BT Sport: “It was good for the first 30 to 35 minutes. We were solid but creaked a little before half-time, and probably the same after half-time until the goal.

"Then obviously you’ve got the penalty incident and the second goal. [Aaron] Ramsdale made a couple of great saves. So we were close and it could have been different.

"To me it looked like a penalty but I’d need to see it again. It wasn’t, and we needed to defend the second goal better.

"But you saw a committed team and ended the game strongly. We never dropped our heads. It’s a big task ahead of us, but I saw positive signs”

BAD SIGNS

Newcastle are still winless in the Premier League this season.

In fact, the Magpies have become only the sixth team to fail to win any of their first 13 games in the English top flight.

Four of the previous five suffered relegation, with Derby being the only ones who pulled it off.

LEAVING HIS MART

Gabriel Martinelli sealed the win for Arsenal against Newcastle after replacing the injured Bukayo Saka.

Martinelli needed just 93 seconds to hit the target with only his second touch of the match.

That was the forward's first Premier League goal at the Emirates since January 2020 when he netted against Sheffield United.

OPEN SEASON

Arsenal have quite a tradition against Newcastle, it seems.

The Gunners have opened the scoring in their last 17 Premier League matches against the Magpies.

That is the longest run against a specific team in the competition's history.
