Simon Callow, who starred in the films Shakespeare in Love, The Phantom of the Opera, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and TV series such as The Witcher, Outlander, and Doctor Who, has joined indie heist film The Pay Day. Variety confirmed the casting news.
Sam Bradford’s feature film debut follows the story of down-on-her-luck IT worker Jennifer, played by Kyla Frye. She is hired by criminal leader Gates, played by Callow, to steal millions of dollars in data via a complex hack. When she is foiled by con artist George, played by Sam Benjamin, the scheme goes wrong. The Pay Day is written by Frye and Benjamin.
Joining Callow, Frye, and Benjamin are Ellen Thomas (Johnny English Reborn), Vincent Jerome (Wonder Woman 1984), Marcus Onilude (Ted Lasso), Rae Lim (No Time to Die), Farrel Hegarty (Big Boys Don’t Cry), Miles Mitchell (Breathe), Kara-Dee Rai (Appetite), Jacob Anderton (Give Them Wings), Frankie Clarence (The Weekend) and Dominic Ryan (Leap of Faith).
“I grew up on Simon’s work, from ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral,’ to his dastardly Vincent Cadby in ‘Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, ’” says Bradford. “So to be directing him is an absolute honour.”
Callow can be most recently seen in Marvel/Disney Plus mini-series Hawkeye as Armand III. He will also be soon seen as Codringher in the second season of the Netflix series The Witcher, that will hit the streaming service in a few weeks.
