Eller Joins Capitals For Practice, Back On Top-6

After quarantining in California, it looks like Lars Eller is back for the Washington Capitals. The Danish center was skating in a regular jersey and joined the team for Saturday’s afternoon practice. He also got his place back on the top-6.

Eller was centering the second line in a normal jersey, with Tom Wilson on the right side and Connor McMichael and Daniel Sprong interchanging on the left wing. McMichael had been the pivot on that line in place of Eller, and it’s a bit interesting to see him swapping out with Sprong on that second line. He was on the second power-play unit for the skate, though.

No. 20 has missed the last six games after entering the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol prior to the Anaheim Ducks showdown on the West Coast swing. He recently came back from the West Coast and had been in a non-contact jersey on Thanksgiving.

Prior to drawing out of the lineup, Eller started to heat up. He not only got his first goal of the season but had points in three straight games. He now has eight points in 15 games to open the 2021-22 campaign.

Also at practice: Nicklas Backstrom and Conor Sheary, both of who were skating in non-contact blue sweaters but participating in practice.
