Liverpool vs Southampton team news

Southampton will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Norwich City last weekend but will have their hands full when they visit in-form Liverpool this afternoon.

Liverpool, who are in the title race for their second Premier League championship in three years, rested a number of key players against Porto in the Champions League in midweek in preparation for their game with Saints.

Former Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota, Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold all missed the Porto game but are expected to get recalled.

Meanwhile, Andrew Robertson is also set to play after missing last weekend’s win against Arsenal due to a hamstring injury. The Scot made a substitute appearance against Porto and it’s thought that Jurgen Klopp will start him today.

As for Southampton, Austrian boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has some good and bad news in terms of team selection.

The bad news sees Stuart Armstrong miss out for a second game running as his calf problem resurfaced ahead of the Norwich City game.

However, Saints welcome back winger duo Nathan Redmond and Moussa Djenepo.

Djenepo was unavailable for Norwich due to undisclosed reasons, while Redmond missed the game against his former club following the birth of his first child.
