The Union, the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference, defeated rival New York Red Bulls 1-0 thanks to a winner in the 123rd minute from Jakob Glesnes.

A similar, low-scoring match could be on the horizon against Nashville as both teams pride themselves on their defense.

“It’s two teams who are more defensive-minded, everyone sees the strength of Nashville,” left-back Kai Wagner said. “They stay defensively really, really good, they defend with seven guys versus three guys. We just have to win all of our duels and that will be the key to the game.”

Jamiro Monteiro and Olivier Mbaizo missed the match against New York due to health and safety protocols, according to a statement from the club. The players are expected to return for the match against Nashville.

Nashville defeated Orlando City in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs, 3-1 at Nissan Stadium on Tuesday. It was a familiar scene for the Boys in Gold as Hany Mukhtar scored the go-ahead goal for the team in the 74th minute, putting them ahead 2-1.

Mukhtar’s reputation for shining when the lights are brightest held up in the team’s first playoff match.

“You want your big players to turn up on the big occasions,” head coach Gary Smith said about Mukhtar. “And he’s done that.”

Philadelphia Union vs Nashville SC score prediction

Both teams have been prone to play low-scoring, defensive affairs all season long, and this postseason matchup should be no exception.

With both previous meetings ending 1-0, in addition to even point totals at the end of the season, these two teams are incredibly evenly matched. Nashville SC’s offensive attack woke up in a 3-1 win over Orlando City, and with both teams so strong on defense, Nashville’s new found offensive firepower should be enough to bring home a win for the Boys in Gold.

Prediction: Philadelphia Union 0-1 Nashville SC
