NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- After a relatively quiet start to the offseason, the Mets came out swinging Friday.
The biggest move came in the late-night hours Friday, with the Amazin's reportedly signing star outfielder Starling Marte to a four-year, $78 million deal, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
That came just hours after the Mets reportedly brought on fellow outfielder Mark Canha and infielder Eduardo Escobar on two-year deals, ESPN reported.
The team hasn't confirmed any of the three deals yet, but did hint at some soon-to-come excitement Saturday morning.
Marte, 33, played for the Marlins and A's last season, batting .310. He's due to occupy the center field spot once taken by Michael Conforto.
Canha, 32, also spent last season with the A's, and can also play first base, along with all outfield spots. He hit .231 last year.
Escobar spent 2021 with the Diamondbacks and Brewers, and played first, second and third bases. He averaged .253 with 28 homers.
The Mets and owner Steve Cohen are looking to make a splash after a disappointing year that ended without a playoff appearance in 2021.
The team brought on former Angels General Manager Billy Eppler to fill their open GM role, but still have to hire a manager after letting go of Luis Rojas.
