House, Mobley Lead #5/5 Bobcats Past #6/7 Yale in Overtime

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 5/5 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team won a thrilling 3-2 overtime game against No. 6/7 Yale on Friday evening in the first game of the Nutmeg Classic. The Bobcats will face UConn in the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 6:15 p.m.
 
Sophomore Olivia Mobley recorded two goals to lead the Bobcats' comeback after going down 2-0 in the opening period. Graduate student Taylor House netted the game-winning goal in overtime to give Quinnipiac the win. 
 
The Bulldogs had scored two unanswered goals in the first period, but the Bobcats did not quit. Mobley scored a power play goal with 22 seconds remaining in the second period. Later in the third period, Mobley scored an extra-attacker goal to tie the game with 39 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. House then scored the game-winner one minute and fifty-two seconds into overtime to secure the victory. 

Quinnipiac earned its 14th win of the season and recorded its second straight victory over a top-ten opponent.

  • (7:38, 1st period, EV) – Quinnipiac 0, Yale 1: The Bulldogs struck first in the first period with a goal from Elle Hartje with an assist by Rebecca Vanstone.  
  •  (11:09, 1st period, PP) – Quinnipiac 0, Yale 2: Emma Seitz netted Yale's second goal of the period on the power play. Hartje and Charlotte Welch tallied assists on the goal. 
  • (19:39, 2nd period, PP) – Quinnipiac 1, Yale 2: Sophomore Olivia Mobley scored a power play goal for the Bobcats with 22 seconds remaining in the second period. She received the puck on the left side above the circle from sophomore Kendall Cooper. Mobley shot the puck first time and buried it past Yale's Gianna Meloni. 
  • (19:21, 3rd period, EX) – Quinnipiac 2, Yale 2: Mobley scored a second goal to force overtime on an extra-attacker goal for Quinnipiac. Cooper secured the puck at the point from senior Lexie Adzija and shot it to the net. Cooper's shot was blocked, and Mobley got the rebound and shot the puck from the slot and scored. 
  • (1:52, OT, EV) – Quinnipiac 3, Yale 2: House got the puck off a nice pass from junior Sadie Peart at the red line and skated to the goal. She went left and shot it past Meloni to earn the overtime victory.

  • Quinnipiac will play in the 17th annual Nutmeg Classic Championship on Saturday, Nov. 27 against UConn. The Bobcats will look to win its ninth Nutmeg Classic Championship trophy and second in back-to-back years. 
  • The Bobcats won its second straight game against Yale this season in the 3-2 overtime win. Quinnipiac is now 22-19-8 all-time against the Bulldogs. 
  • The Bobcats tallied back-to-back top-ten victories with the win against No. 6/7 Yale today.
