"The Game" has high stakes no matter the record of Ohio State or Michigan.

But it's different this year. The Buckeyes and Wolverines both sit in the top-six of the College Football Playoff. Both have just one loss — Ohio State's to Oregon and Michigan's to Michigan State — and enter the matchup with a trip to the Big Ten Championship on the line. Should the winner of this game then proceed to win the conference, it would all but certainly send the victor to the College Football Playoff.

These two teams have found success in the 2021 season in different ways. Ohio State has primarily overpowered teams with its offense, as they rank No. 1 in scoring (47.2 points per game) and total yardage (559.5 yards per game) among all FBS teams. Though Michigan isn't far behind in offense (15th and 24th, respectively), the Wolverines have leaned on their defense. They rank 10th in the nation with only 306.7 yards allowed per game and seventh in scoring defense at 16.3 points per game, while Ohio State is 44th and 16th, respectively.

The Wolverines will be tasked with trying to slow down a passing attack that has dominated opponents this season. With 36 passing touchdowns, 3,468 passing yards and only five picks, C.J. Stroud has cemented himself as one of the Heisman frontrunners as he has found success passing to star wide receiver talents like Chris Olave (848 yards, 13 touchdowns), Garrett Wilson (939 yards, 11 touchdowns) and Jaxon Smith-Njigba (1,132 yards, six touchdowns).

Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara has played well this season, throwing 14 touchdowns and two interceptions with 2,142 yards, but it's been the dual-running back setup of Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum that headlines the offense. Haskins leads the team with 1,063 rushing yards on 216 carries, while Corum has rushed 130 times for 778 yards.

All-time, Michigan maintains the edge in the rivalry, leading Ohio State 58-51-6. But Ohio State has won the most recent eight and has controlled the rivalry since 2001, as the Buckeyes hold a 17-2 edge.
